Can't Say A Word

I never really knew what it meant to be alone

Until you defined it for me when you picked up the keys

Left me waking up looking at the space you deserted

I didn’t even get dressed before I ran, but was it worth it?

Should’ve known you were gone, girl

What had I done wrong, girl?

Neighbor calls me up sayin’ how are you?

There’s tension in his voice so I say, “Tell me the truth.”

He’s hesitating, my chest is aching

And then he tells me

There’s a girl who opened your door midnight

She slipped out undressed and there was a car light

Some punk pulled up, pulled her in

She was laughin’ out loud, she was happy within

There was a suitcase and tons of cash

You could see him slip it to her, she was actin’ rash

Didn’t care one bit about you, didn’t look back

I hate to be the one to tell you that

And I don’t say a word

I can’t say a word

There are no words, no

My heart’s just smashed

I tried to get it together, but how do you do it

When the pieces are scattered, when to her nothing mattered?

And seemingly the wedding ring I would’ve used

Would’ve been just another collector’s item but the relationship abused

Didn’t see I’d be out the picture

We were so happy, but for different reasons I know now

She bought time

I gave her my heart

Now I’m so lonely

After the neighbor told me

There’s a girl who opened your door midnight

She slipped out undressed and there was a car light

Some punk pulled up, pulled her in

She was laughin’ out loud, she was happy within

There was a suitcase and tons of cash

You could see him slip it to her, she was actin’ rash

Didn’t care one bit about you, didn’t look back

I hate to be the one to tell you that

And I don’t say a word

I can’t say a word

There are no words, no

My heart’s just smashed

Broken down like a bridge when she cut the ropes

That held me up, that gave me light and gave me hope

And now I’m down in the darkness blaming myself

For ever letting this cheater offer any help

So all you women always blaming us men

Listen to me now it ain’t just them

You break our hearts too

I’d given it all to you

Oh, and they’re asking me, gathering around

How are you doing?

I’m kneeling on the ground

Watching the dollar bills fly

The ones you left me for without goodbye

And I can’t answer

And I can’t answer

I can’t answer

No, I couldn’t say a word when he told me

There’s a girl who opened your door midnight

She slipped out undressed and there was a car light

Some punk pulled up, pulled her in

She was laughin’ out loud, she was happy within

There was a suitcase and tons of cash

You could see him slip it to her, she was actin’ rash

Didn’t care one bit about you, didn’t look back

I hate to be the one to tell you that

And I don’t say a word

I can’t say a word

There are no words, no

My heart’s just smashed

My heart’s just smashed

My heart’s just smashed

I can’t say a word
