The Only Race

There’s something I’ve never understood as I grew up
Why the hell do people have to hurt one another? Hell, grow up.
Why are you tossing around names, spitting in my face, shoutin’ about money and fame?
It’s lame, and frankly I don’t care who knows my name
And if you’re talking about blame, why do you turn to me?
Why does a man in a turban get arrested for the white man’s bleed?
They say he’s responsible for the blonde teen girl’s bastard seed
But the real culprit here is the one who escapes with murder, money, and Miami
Heck, he’s gambling in Vegas while brown and black are getting the law’s whip, it’s heinous
There’s loopholes in the system and you’re never punished if you’re famous
Hah, I’m actually glad I’m not pampered that way
Ignorance is the killer at the end of the day
Say, did that blonde girl tell you the truth detective?
Don’t you suspect she lied for some extra attention? Did you correct it?
No, I shouldn’t expect it
The peaceful praying Muslim gets all of the ruckus
You’ve locked him behind bars without question
Come on humanity, there should be no place for a racist
When will you realize it?

The only race is human race, not the color of my face
You try to strip off my faith with your hate and leave me in disgrace
I’ll hold no weapons, but I’ll stay strong and move along, I’ve done nothing wrong
So show some kindness, courtesy, treat me the way you want to be
Accept it, we all belong here

Isn’t it a tragedy how even to this day after hundreds of years of lessons
Many never learned and we still fear?
Can finally send my child to school, but, oh dear
They told him they’re not surprised the robber was black, was he there?
No, as a matter of fact, my son was home with me
We were eating mashed potatoes with the rarest, expensive gravy
Watching the t.v., ‘America’s Got Talent’
His father’s the host, his brother’s the star, I don’t have to work, they can handle it
But I do, I do it anyhow, ‘cause I’d regret ending up like typical lazy rich folk
Who treat any other shade like cows
I’d rather hold on to values, teach a few to you, something your parents should do
Remain loyal to their vows
They point their fingers at us when it comes to violence?
Look at your white dad beating his white spouse
Small mouse, you don’t know a thing
I’m no different from you, caste shouldn’t be existing
This is why you need an education
To learn that every color of the rainbow makes a beautiful creation

The only race is human race, not the color of my face
You try to strip off my faith with your hate and leave me in disgrace
I’ll hold no weapons, but I’ll stay strong and move along, I’ve done nothing wrong
So show some kindness, courtesy, treat me the way you want to be
Accept it, we all belong here

Daddy, Mommy, when I was five they drove me out of the shade into the sun
I sat on the pavement against a brick wall hiding in a sweater while it was 101
A girl shouted, “Stay away from the chocolate.”
I couldn’t comprehend at the time, it’s affected my life, now I can’t stand it
So sensitive and afraid, I never want my children to go through the same thing
People hate you for nothing
Now I know better
I’d rather stand proud and smile back than hide in my sweater
I’m unashamed of my color

The only race is human race, not the color of my face
You try to strip off my faith with your hate and leave me in disgrace
I’ll hold no weapons, but I’ll stay strong and move along, I’ve done nothing wrong
So show some kindness, courtesy, treat me the way you want to be
Accept it, we all belong here
(x2)

No innocent man should have to live in fear
